Article: The Bathroom Upgrade I Wish I Had Made Years Ago

The Bathroom Upgrade I Wish I Had Made Years Ago

Some home upgrades are exciting.

A new kitchen. Fresh flooring. A remodeled bathroom.

Others are much smaller, but end up making a bigger impact on your everyday life.

Five years ago, I made one of those upgrades.

At the time, I didn't think much of it.

Today, I can't imagine living without it.

I'm talking about a bidet.

It Started With A Simple Recommendation

Years ago, a friend told me something I've never forgotten.

"Once you get a bidet, there ain't no other way."

I laughed.

Honestly, it sounded a little dramatic.

Like most Americans, I'd used toilet paper my entire life and never really considered there might be a better option.

A bidet wasn't something I was actively shopping for.

It wasn't even on my radar.

But eventually curiosity got the best of me, and I decided to give one a try.

Looking back, I'm glad I did.

The Difference Is Hard To Explain Until You Experience It

People often think bidets are about luxury.

And while features like heated seats, warm water cleansing, and air drying certainly feel luxurious, that's not what changed my mind.

The biggest difference was simply feeling cleaner.

It's one of those things that's difficult to fully understand until you've experienced it yourself.

After years of using a bidet, going back to toilet paper alone just doesn't feel the same.

It feels like settling for less.

Not because toilet paper doesn't work.

But because water simply does a better job.

An Unexpected Benefit During COVID

When the toilet paper shortage happened during COVID, many households found themselves scrambling to find supplies.

Store shelves were empty.

People were buying toilet paper in bulk whenever they could find it.

Like many families, we stocked up as well.

But because we already had a bidet, we were using significantly less toilet paper than before.

That wasn't the reason we bought it.

But it quickly became one of those unexpected benefits you appreciate over time.

Even today, we use far less toilet paper than we did before installing a bidet.

It's Changed The Way I Think About Bathrooms

This may sound funny, but it's true.

After five years, I've gotten so accustomed to using a bidet that I notice when one isn't available.

Hotels.

Vacation rentals.

Public restrooms.

I immediately recognize the difference.

In fact, there have been plenty of times when I've preferred waiting until I got home rather than using a restroom without one.

That probably sounds ridiculous to someone who's never used a bidet.

To someone who owns one, it's probably completely understandable.

Why More Homeowners Are Making The Switch

Bidets have been common throughout many parts of the world for decades.

In the United States, they're becoming increasingly popular as homeowners look for ways to make everyday life more comfortable.

People are investing in products that improve their daily routines.

Not because they're flashy.

Because they make life easier.

Bidets can help:

  • Improve personal hygiene

  • Reduce toilet paper usage

  • Increase bathroom comfort

  • Support individuals with mobility limitations

  • Create a more modern bathroom experience

Sometimes the best upgrades aren't the ones people notice immediately.

They're the ones you appreciate every single day.

Comfort, Dignity, And Independence

One thing I appreciate more now than I did five years ago is how important small comforts become over time.

A comfortable home isn't just about appearance.

It's about creating an environment that supports your daily life.

Simple upgrades can help make everyday tasks easier, safer, and more enjoyable.

For many people, a bidet isn't just a convenience.

It's a tool that supports comfort, dignity, and independence at home.

Those are things worth investing in.

Final Thoughts

I've purchased plenty of products over the years.

Most eventually become background noise.

A bidet isn't one of them.

Five years later, it's still one of the best home upgrades I've ever made.

Cleaner.

More comfortable.

Less toilet paper.

And a better overall experience every day.

My friend was right.

Once you get a bidet, there really isn't any other way.
